WHEREAS,

Under the coaching of Rodney Rodenhurst, qualified in Regional competition to represent The Pacific Northwest at the 10th Biennial World Sprint Outrigger Canoe Championships competition in Bora Bora, Tahiti, March 7 – 17, 2002; and

WHEREAS, these athletes epitomize dedication to their sport, setting a positive example for other citizens in our community; and

WHEREAS, these athletes in competition in Bora Bora, Tahiti succeeded in winning the Bronze Medal in the Senior Master Men’s Division, the first medal won by any team from the Continental United States in the 20 year history of International Outrigger Canoe Racing; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being a competitive sport, Outrigger Canoe Racing develops honor, integrity, pride and discipline while perpetuating the Culture of Polynesia in their community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Bremerton supports and encourages the competitive efforts of its athletes and their positive contributions to the community;

NOW, THEREFORE, I Cary Bozeman, Mayor of the City of Bremerton do hereby proclaim support for these champions and ask the community to join in support and in congratulating them in their achievement in bringing home the Bronze.
